Print Process
Ever wonder what the little numbers below a print mean? This is the way I keep track of the prints I make. Each print is numbered according to the system below. A documentation sheet, as sampled at left, is included with each print sold.
Designation Definitions and What They Mean
WP (Working Proofs): Prints taken to check the progression of the image. Usually a proof is taken each time I do new work to the plate.
TP (Trial Proof): The plate work is all done. I am experimenting with papers and/or the way I wipe the plate.
CTP (Color Trial Proof): The plate work is all done. I am experimenting with colored ink and/ or chine colle.
AP (Artist Proof): Print(s) I keep for myself.
AN (Arabic Numbered Edition x/x): A series of prints that are all alike - same paper, ink, wipe.
II x/x (Series #2 Edition): A series of prints that are all alike, but different from the x/x series. Example: A different paper or ink color.
VE x/x (Variant Edition): A series of prints that have some common elements, but have a variation in some elements. Example: Same ink and paper but different colors in the chine colle.
S1 (State 1): Used when a series of prints is taken before all the plate work is done.
TI(Total Impressions): The number of all of the above added together.
